Vast experience and understanding of the needs of persons with special requirements and adaptations in order to function independently or with minimum assistance

We recognise the importance of consulting and involving the target end user and have experience of such consultation and involvement in the delivery of our services

Understanding of the construction process and construction related issues locally; ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications

Knowledge and understanding of current guidance and best practice in the access field both nationally and internationally, including relevant Building Regulations

Knowledge of a range of good practice guidance for a variety of building elements and building types

Appreciation of the non-physical issues which may impact on the accessibility of an environment, such as management issues

Ability to develop access policies and strategies in consultation with clients

Understanding and development of access statements, action plans and their application

Understanding of the technical and structural constraints of access solutions

Understanding of the means of escape requirements for 'persons with special requirements and adaptations’ including relevant parts of building regulations and legal framework involved in dealing with fire and other emergency evacuation requirements

Ability to carry out design appraisals for new buildings and building alterations

Ability to test and progress recommendations; knowledge of approval and procurement processes

Understanding of up to date relevant acts in relation to provision of inclusive and sustainable access, such as:

The Equality Act 2010 and associated Codes of Practice; Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (2010) ; Building Regulations, Approved Documents, Fire Safety Regulations; Lagos State Special Peoples Law 2011

Understanding of the implications of:

Planning legislation and guidance; Health and Safety Legislation; Relevant parts of the Nigeria National Building Codes;

Ability to identify barriers and hazards to accessibility within an environment by physical inspection, and from drawings and specifications

Ability to recommend access solutions to barriers and hazards identified above, in line with current guidance and best practice

Ability to identify situations not covered by current guidance and best practice and make recommendations accordingly

Ability to apply current guidance and / or best practice beyond construction related activities

Appreciation of aesthetic aspirations and technical, time and cost implications and constraints faced by design teams and clients and the ability to take these into account when recommending solutions

Understanding of the legal obligations and liabilities associated with offering expert advice

Understanding the need for professional agreements and terms of appointment

Ability to prepare reports to an appropriate technical and professional level

Experience of communicating technical access issues to both technical and non-technical groups and individuals

Competent written and verbal communication skills

NGZ-AGSAM Limited continues to collaborate with reputable private and public organisations who promote the cause of persons with special requirements in order to function independently or with minimum assistance.

  • Department for International Development DfID Nigeria via one of their State Level Programmes - State Accountability and Voice Initiative (SAVI).
  • Lagos State Office of Disability Affairs – LASODA – a department created to oversee the implementation of the Lagos State Special Peoples’ Law 2011.
  • JONAPWD - Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities
  • Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) – A Lagos State government regulatory body with the responsibility for maintaining and ensuring the State is a safe environment to work and live in. We are Safety Consultants to this agency and provide collaborative consulting services to them and the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA)

Our direct access to relevant information sources especially on the international front keeps us abreast with developments in this service area and, ensures we have:

  • Access to up to date relevant legislation as a result of our affiliation to organizations and membership of relevant governing bodies that champion and promote inclusive and equal access both nationally and internationally

  • Sustained knowledge and experience of developments on the application of relevant standards and technical guidance for delivering Inclusive and sustainable projects gained from our attendance at relevant events and workshops organized by reputable parties such as Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE), Civic Trust Awards UK, and National Register of Access Consultants UK.
  • Prompt access to information on technological advancement and new equipment for providing specialist adaptations as they are made available on the market.

Policies

We are committed to the protection of our environment and deliver our services in a way that does not damage the environment.
We embrace sustainability initiatives such as minimising energy consumption, recycling, reducing our reliance on paper-based office operations and cutting out unnecessary travel wherever possible.
